Specialise on the tooling manufacturing for the automotive industry, French company OTM has incorporated a new high speed milling machine to enhance its flexibility and productivity.
Ouest Tool Maintenance (OTM), located in Deux-Sèvres (Francia), is specialised in the tooling manufacturing for the automotive sector. The company has modernised its workshop with a XPIDER; the most recent milling machine developed by Correa with the latest technology to guarantee the highest performance, such as the mixed structure of concrete and steel in the bed and the steel pull bars inside the ram.
The machine allows working with large parts (traverses of 5 x 3 x 1,5 m) with two milling heads, on mechanical head and one with electro-spindle. For manufacturing its components, OTM has eight cnc milling machines at its facilities, the smallest machines steel parts of 400 x 600 mm and the largest cast parts of 3000 mm x 5000 mm and 15 T.
Flexible milling
The investment made by OTM in a new milling machine aims to increase its flexibility to enlarge its production. “First, we just wanted to replace an old milling machines of more than 20 years with 2.500 x 4.000 mm. But we had doubts between a mechanical head for the frames and a machine with electro-spindle for better dynamics” explains Gérald Rouger, CEO of OTM.
The UDX head is the only one in the market indexed every 0.02o and a speed of rotation of 10,000 rpm; it also has a second continuous head UCE with five axes. The XPIDER with travels of 60m/min in all axes responds adequately and offers more possibilities in terms of versatility and finishing quality.
