The main aim of this project is to advance the development of a design technology that removes any material content of a machine that does not add value in terms of productivity and reliability in machining processes. The project will focus on one of the main scientific breakthroughs made in this methodology, working with modal machine coordinates rather than absolute Cartesian coordinates, to develop an iterative process that optimises the relationship between the critical stroke depth that can be reached and the associated modal mass for each working mode. Once perfected, the methodology will be validated in the real design of a new range of floor type milling machines that will be targeted specifically at machining operations with high cutting depths. Through this new range of milling machines, Correa hopes to integrate two concepts that have, until now, been mutually exclusive: high productivity and reduced consumption of material and energy resources.
